Born in Switzerland to Slovak parents at a time when the Swiss Slovak Martina Hingis was one of the best in the world, Bencic started playing tennis at the age of two. Her father arranged for her to train every day with Hingis's mother and coach Melanie Molitor since she was 7 years old. At the age of 16, Bencic became the world's first junior tennis player and won two Grand Slam singles titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
